Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is focused on providing a safe, supportive place for clients to explore their concerns. In my work with clients, I strive to provde a throughtful, compassionate, and attentive presence. I draw from a perspective that emphasizes both the interpersonal/relational nature of therapy as well as the important role that culture plays in how we define ourselves and relate to one another. I find that this approach helps to facilitate a strong working alliance between myself and my clients and in doing so sets the ground for clients to begin to challenge existing patterns in their lives and experiment with making healthy changes in the way they relate to themselves and others.
My training has been focused on providing outpatient therapy to adults in multiple settings. Much of my early training was focused on providing care to college students, which I deeply loved. I currently work with adults of all ages, but continue to have a strong interest in helping young adults (ages 18-35) successfully manage a wide range of psychological issues including depression, anxiety, relationship and family of origin issues, identity development, grief and loss, LGBT issues, and trauma.
About Me
I was born and raised in Minnesota and feel proud to be from the Midwest. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. After taking a 2 year break from school, I moved to Oregon to pursue my doctorate degree from Pacific University.
I live in SW Portland with my partner and our two young children. Much of my spare time is spent playing with the kids, but I also enjoy camping, yoga, board games, and baking delicious treats!
